Karen Hood is a Ph.D. candidate in marketing with a concentration in consumer behavior. Her research focuses on persuasion and information processing in Internet advertising and responsibility in marketing practices. Prior to entering the Ph.D. program at University of Tennessee, Karen was a marketing and public relations practitioner for more than 15 years, including corporate retail sales promotion, consumer products marketing, non profit public relations and events management, and professional services. Companies represented on her resume include Kraft Foods, Marriott Resorts, Sea Ray Boats, and Saks Incorporated.
She received a BS degree in Communications and an MBA from UT. While filling an interim position in the Global Business Institute in 2002, she managed an international exchange program for business students and coordinated a federally-funded program for visiting scholars from Eastern Europe. She subsequently worked in the College of Business Dean’s office, and concurrently taught in the colleges of Communications and Business prior to joining the Ph.D. program.
Outside her academic career, Karen provides voice and on-camera talent for commercial and corporate audio visual productions and enjoys singing with a jazz and swing combo.
